The Pantheon Rome

Pantheon ( Rome, Italy) - small group tours of Rome - rome city sightseeing tours - Piazza della Rotonda Rome - Raffaello tomb -

The Pantheon stands in the heart of Campo Marzio, one of the ancient part of Rome, exactly in the square now called Piazza della Rotonda.
The original construction was realized in 27 BC by 27 B.C. by Marcus Vipsanio Agrippa but it was totally rebuilt between the years 118 and 125 AC by Emperor Hadrian
At the beginning of the third century, the monument felt abadonded so, in 608, Emperor Foca gave it up to Pope Boniface IV, so The Pantheon, (originally temple of all the gods), became the Cristian Church of Sancta Maria ad Martyres and since the Renaissance it has been also used as a tomb.
It is still a consecrated Cristian Church, where is buried Raffaello Sanzio.
Since year 1870, the Pantheon became the shrine of the Kings of Italy.
Inside the building, you can see the “oculus”, a 9 metre round opening at the top of the dome.
If it’s raining, you can watch the falling water disappear into the floor’s 22 invisible holes.
The Pantheon is one of the best preserved ancient monuments in Rome.
