The Capitoline Hill Rome

Rome Capitoline hill - Roman Forum - Rome city sightseeing tours - Marco Aurelio statue - Coliseum of Rome - Arch of Titus - Capitoline Museum - the seven hills of Rome -

The Capitoline Hill, or Campodiglio, is the ideal centre of Rome and its symbol since Ancient Rome, as it has been the hub of Rome’s political and religious life.
Also today, it hosts the seat of the Mayor in the city hall Palazzo Senatorio, the building with the bell tower.
It’s a panoramic point because it’s also one of the Seven Hills of Rome where you can enjoy wonderful views of the city, expecially over the Roman Forum.
From here, you can admire Arch of Titus, the majestic Basilica of Maxentius, the ruins of the temples dedicated to Romulus, Antoninus and Faustina and the temple of Vesta.
You can also view the the Coliseum, Forum of Caesar, the house of the Vestal Virgins, the Arch of Augustus, the most ancient temple of Castor and Pollux and the arch of Septimius Severus.
You can also sweep the horizon along the Sacred WayVia Sacra, the most important street in Ancient Rome.
Today, the magnificent square by Michelangelo is encircled by two identical buildings, Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo, where you can visit the Capitoline Museums
In the centre of the Square there is the copy of the bronze statue of Marco Aurelio. The original statue has been moved inside the Capitoline Museums, after a long restoration ended in 1990.
